I am a refugee from big law firms (at least for Montana), having practiced for eight years with the regional law firm of Holland & Hart, followed by ten years with Garlington, Lohn & Robinson where I also served on the Executive Committee. I recently came to the conclusion that I actually like being an entrepreneur as much as a lawyer and struck out with a similar-minded group of professionals to create a new law firm dedicated to business owners like ourselves.
During my career, I have always litigated complex commercial, environmental and employment cases, whether in state or federal courts as well as private arbitrations. I actually relish the opportunity to take complex problems, break them down into manageable parts and then convey them in simple to understand terms for a judge, jury or arbitrator. I come from a family of teachers, so the challenge of explaining complicated issues comes naturally to me.
After spending almost two decades working at the “factory”, I came to the conclusion that bigger firms and stuffy traditions are not better, particularly when it comes to your business. A motivated and innovative team of professionals can accomplish any challenge put before them and provide better value for you, the client.
When not building this new business, I stay active in the Missoula community, principally through coaching my kids’ teams. Currently I coach my daughter’s speech and debate team, my son’s rugby team and help out where I can with their Tae Kwon Do school. I crave adventure and am constantly looking for the next big trip, whether that means biking cross-country, running hundred mile races or just camping near the lakes in Western Montana.
